65In the first three installments of this series on Columbus local restaurants and eateries, we focused on the meal part of the subject, but now is the fun part: Dessert. In the City of Columbus, we have three very unique and delicious local options for dessert that one can not go wrong with trying any of them.
· Jeni's Ice Cream
Jeni Britton Bauer is the creator, founder, and idea person behind this innovative ice creams shop. She is a treated chief and started this in 2002 after working as a French patisserie. They are created with fresh local ingredients from Ohio along with quality ingredients from around the world. The ice cream is made carefully under a watchful eye and all of it is made in ColumbusOhio in their production kitchen. They specialize on being special and having an assortment of unique flavors of delicious ice cream. They made fresh waffle cones right there in the shops. They have locations in GrandviewHeights on Grandview Ave, in the Short North on High Street, one at the North Market, in Bexley on Main Street, in Dublinon Bridge, and now one in Clintonville on High St. They have become very popular and are starting to grow fast. Jeni's are now even sold in cooking magazines and shipped around the country. The flavors are very creative and many people would not think of as ice cream flavors, but they end up working out wonderfully. If you are in the area, this is one ice cream shop that you should at least try one. The great thing about Jeni's: free samples and try as many as you like.
· Johnson's Real Ice Cream
This is a family owned ice cream shop has been in existence since 1950. It is one of the oldest and longest running ice cream shops in Columbus. It is located on Main Stin downtown Bexley, which is just East of downtown Columbus. They continue to be in the original building, but have expanded it multiple times. They provide over 50 ice cream flavors along with sandwiches and soups; but like the name says, they are known for their ice cream.
